Marmox Sound Board is a premium acoustic insulation solution that effectively minimises sound transmission, particularly impact sound, between floors. Marmox soundboard has an extruded polystyrene core coated on one side with fibreglass mesh encased in a c.0.75mm layer of polymer-modified concrete and on the other side, a 2mm thick layer of SBR rubber.
By incorporating a combination of innovative materials like expanded polystyrene at an optimal thickness, this remarkable product enhances your floor's thermal performance, keeping your living or working space cosy and energy-efficient throughout the year. The SBR rubber layer protects the footfall and other impact sounds from travelling through the system. resulting in a significant reduction in impact sound.

Installation:
To begin, attach the boards to the floor with the rubber side facing downwards. You can opt to use a thin layer of flexible tile adhesive or Marmox Multibond. Multibond is a material that can absorb sound waves, providing a bit more sound reduction and insulation compared to using just the boards. However, it takes about 12 hours for Marmox Multibond to cure effectively before you can proceed to tile upon it.
Regardless of the adhesive chosen, it is important to leave a 4mm space between the boards' edge and the wall. This space should then be filled with a visco-elastic adhesive like Multibond to prevent the occurrence of flanking sounds. Once installed this soundproofing insulation, proceed to tape the joints and tile in the usual manner.
Applications:
Marmox soundboard can be used in the following applications:
- As a water-resistant underlayer for ceramic and stone tiles on indoor floors that offers separation, insulation against heat, and protection against impact noise.
- Soundboard is commonly utilised in shared living spaces where a tiled floor would otherwise cause noise to exceed the limits stated in Part E / Section 5 of the building regulations (England & Wales / Scotland).
